Tobacco Prevention Program

Black Hills Special Services’ Tobacco Prevention Program focuses on reducing disease, disability, and death related to tobacco use by preventing the initiation of tobacco use among young people, promoting quitting among youth and adults, and eliminating nonsmokers’ exposure to environmental tobacco smoke.
Facilitation of tobacco prevention services are available through services such as:

• Tobacco prevention resources available
• Technical assistance to schools and post-secondary institutions in the 8-county area in western South Dakota and 27-county area in central South Dakota
• Assistance to the medical and dental in the development of tobacco policies
• Resource to community and parent groups in the development of prevention
• Educational forums, councils, and networks
• Technical assistance to businesses

Resources include brochures, posters, videos, display items, reference books, games, curricula program ideas and information through forums, conferences, councils, and networks. The Tobacco Prevention Program also provides technical assistance on prevention activities to community groups, schools, professionals, parents, and youth.
